Burger fans rejoice! Crave Real Burgers has unveiled a delicious new bite, the Drunken Mushroom Burger, for the James Beard Foundation’s Blended Burger Project. Created by head chef Jeff Richard, the nationwide contest challenges chefs to make a tasty burger featuring cultivated mushrooms that is healthier and more sustainable. The five chefs that receive the most online votes for their burger will get to travel to New York City’s James Beard House to cook their burgers in October of this year.
To get Chef Richard on the docket, head to one of Crave’s four locations, try the burger and vote online; but just until July 31—that’s when the project ends. You can vote once every 24 hours, and post pictures of your Drunken Mushroom burger with the hashtag #blendedburgerproject to spread the word.
WHAT’S IN IT
The Drunken Mushroom burger consists of a patty made with 75 percent Colorado Proud beef and 25 percent sautéed Shiitake and Cremini mushrooms blended with fresh thyme, rosemary and garlic. The patty is topped with truffle mayonnaise, Parmesan, Gruyere and Swiss cheeses, ketchup and drunken onions with tempura-fried Shiitake and Cremini mushrooms, plus served au jus for dipping. Chef Richard recommends washing it down with New Belgium’s 1554 Black Lager.
WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT
“The tempura-fried Shiitake and Cremini mushrooms on this burger really set it apart and provide a satisfying crunch with a deep and earthy flavor,” says Chef Richard. “We hope our local community will support us and try this burger at any of our locations and then vote for our Drunken Mushroom burger online. We want to win and show the rest of the country what Colorado is made of!”
