When the nine-to-five, everyday grind is filled with emails, meetings and phone calls, we don’t blame you for thinking, “I should’ve been a cowboy.” And now you can try out your best John Wayne (without the huge commitment) by taking part in The Home Ranch’s Working Guest Ranch Vacation May 16-21.

The Relais & Chateaux designated ranch, just outside of Clark near Steamboat Springs, gives you the opportunity to work alongside wranglers and ranchers as they prepare the property for its summer season opening. Fixing fences, repairing trails, planting seedlings, riding horses and attending new wrangler orientation sessions are just a few of the activities you’ll have the opportunity to try your hand at.

And, of course, there’s food: Each hardy meal is served bunk house style—after a full day on the ranch, you’ll have earned your keep. After you eat, swing your partner round and round to the slide of the fiddle played by Elana James, former Home Ranch wrangler, Ranch Hand Band fiddle player and now with the famed Hot Club of Cowtown.
