Looking for an easy-to-get-to destination for a few days of unplugged snowy fun while the kids are out of school? Snow Mountain Ranch in Granby and YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park are great for families and groups, offers a slew of activities (many at no extra cost for overnight guests) that appeal to all ages and a variety of lodging options—from hotel-style rooms to yurts, cabins and mega cabins.
Spring break on-site activities at Snow Mountain Ranch, located between Winter Park/Mary Jane and Ski Granby Ranch, include dog sledding, fat snow bikes (the Ski and Fat Bike Spring Festival takes place March 24-26), Nordic skiing, tubing/sledding, ice skating, snowshoeing, horseback riding, indoor archery, indoor climbing wall, swimming pool with water slides and climbing wall, craft shop, ping-pong, basketball and roller-skating, plus weekly programming such as Human Hungry Hungry Hippos game, snow games, curling and snow fort building. New this season: an intro to alpine touring program.
At YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, families will find affordable private cabins and lodge rooms (no TVs!), optional dining plans that feature three meals a day and activities including guided hikes, fat bike rentals, indoor swimming, archery lessons, arts and crafts, roller skating and miniature golf.
From March 19-April 14, YMCA of the Rockies will feature special events for families who are vacationing during spring break with activities including:
- Erupting apple-cano: Create and erupt your own mini apple-canos and figure out just why they erupt the way they do.
- Lawn games: Hawaiian-themed lawn games include a beach call relay race, coconut bowling and a human ring toss.
- Wave maker: Create a wave in a bottle while learning the different densities of varying liquids.
- Luau party: Wear your best Hawaiian shirt to participate in games, music and fun.
