Think of sports bars as places for greasy food, lifeless service and overall forgettable experiences? John Tesar is here to change your mind with Element Kitchen & Cocktail.
“It’s not just a sports bar, it’s a local restaurant with good, solid, nutritious food,” says the celebrity chef, a four-time James Beard nominee and two-time “Top Chef” contestant.
True, the newly opened Element, at 1134 Broadway in Denver, is sports bar at its heart, with 12 TVs and 80 beers on the menu, but with menu items including Colorado lamb meatballs, charcuterie boards and steak frites, it’s sure to become a foodie destination, as well. (Of course, more traditional fare is also available–wings, nachos, burgers–but all with an upscale twist.)
“I love casual food even though I’m a practitioner of very sophisticated, intricate food,” Tesar says. “I think this is the way America is going and I think this is the way people really like to eat.”
For those looking for a more classic sports bar experience, the melt-in-your-mouth pimento cheeseburger or tempura-fried fish and chips will make you feel right at home. Fine dining more your thing? We recommend the yellowtail and avocado crudo and the Akaushi filet mignon.
Colorado beer lovers will say cheers to the robust local brew list (think Upslope, Oskar Blues, Left Hand, Epic Brewing, Crazy Mountain, Telluride and others), while the cocktail list will appeal to those seeking spirits (we can’t stop thinking about the pineapple sidecar). Game on!
Element Kitchen & Cocktail is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. element-kitchen.com
