Velvet Crush

Luxurious, soft and sophisticated, velvet is seeing a resurgence in popularity when it comes to fall fashions. The sumptuous fabric was draped all over the runways this season, and looks especially modern in bright jewel tones—from ruby red to citrine yellow to amethyst purple. Wear it for day—a chic fitted blazer with jeans or a maxi skirt. Wear it for evening—an elegant dress is always classic. Or wear it as an accessory—pumps, purses and hats all get a dose of glam when done in velvet. Eva Gabor knew what she was talking about when she said, “All any girl needs, at any time in history, is simple velvet and basic diamonds.”
