This issue highlights two of my favorite things—spas and exploring beautiful Colorado. I think the reason why these subjects appeal to me so much is because they both offer a healthy outlet from the demands of our daily lives. They possess very therapeutic qualities as well—the healing power of touch and the invigorating essence of nature.
We are so fortunate to live in a region of the country where getting outdoors is as effortless as a short excursion by car. Everyone in the world already knows how amazing our mountain towns are during the ski season, but I think Colorado’s best-kept secret is how equally amazing they are during the summer. Filled with endless outdoor activities, Colorado’s stunning mountain towns offer ample opportunities to channel your inner adventurer, enhance budding photography skills or pursue a passion for wildlife. And, as if that weren’t enough, the high country is teeming with extraordinary resorts as well as charming inns and laid-back ranches. In this issue, we take a look at the outdoor adventures, exquisite accommodations and never-ending list of festivals that abound in the summertime in the Rocky Mountains.
Just as it’s easy to understand why a visit to Colorado’s higher elevations can be rejuvenating to an urban dweller, one certainly doesn’t need to think twice about why a visit to a spa is so beneficial. Luckily, for those of us living in the Denver area, there are more than a handful of superb spas within reach, just waiting to revitalize and refresh overly tired and exceptionally tense souls. But these peaceful sanctuaries offer much more than relaxing massages and detoxifying beauty treatments. While the services treat the physical symptoms of stress and tension, the simple act of unplugging from the outside world for an afternoon of stillness can be dramatically uplifting for the spirit. Take a look at our Top Spas of Denver story to see a list of our favorites. DLM Associate Editor, Alison Roth, had the tough assignment of researching each spa on our list (okay, I had an opportunity to sample a few of them myself). After being extensively exfoliated, kneaded, unknotted, relaxed and spiritually balanced, Ali is quickly becoming an expert on the local spa scene—one of the benefits that help offset the challenges of long days/evenings spent editing and meeting tight deadlines.
I hope you enjoy perusing the pages of this issue of Denver Life Magazine. Let it serve as a reminder to take some time out for yourself. Whether you spend a day recharging at a local spa or escaping to the great outdoors, remember to slow down and enjoy life now. I promise you won’t regret it.
Warmly,
Kristin N. Miller
