Calling all young wordsmiths! Looking for a way to show your dad just how much you appreciate him this Father’s Day? How about sending him to the Colorado BBQ Challenge? Held annually on Father’s Day weekend (June 15-17 this year), the BBQ Challenge is a weekend celebration in Frisco featuring 70-plus barbecuers, seven bands, pig races, kids’ activities, the third annual Fire Fighter Cook-Offf, sampling and demos, the Breckenridge Distillery Whiskey Tour, the Bacon Burner 6K race and more.

The event also features a Father’s Day essay contest, open to those 16 years old or younger. Describe just how much your dad means to you in 600 words or less, and you could win a two-night stay in a two-bedroom condo in Frisco for the BBQ Challenge weekend, two tickets to the Whiskey Tour, $100 in Hogbacks (the official currency of the BBQ Challenge) and more. All essays must be submitted by midnight on May 5.

The event and the essay contest are sponsored by the town of Frisco. “Every year we endeavor to celebrate family and food by having a Father’s Day essay contest,” says Nikki Moore, marketing and communications coordinator for the town of Frisco. “We bring one deserving family together for a weekend of relaxation and the best BBQ you will have in Colorado this year.”
