Jeffrey Gibson takes inspiration from his Choctaw and Cherokee roots to bring us Jeffrey Gibson: Like a Hammer, the first major museum exhibition of his work.
The exhibit draws upon Gibson’s Native American heritage to remix his older work and explore his multifaceted identity. With an emphasis on culture, colonialism, and the post-colonial mindset, the exhibit works are beautiful and provocative. His abstract work revolves around universal themes of love, community, strength, vulnerability, and survival. The exhibit is on view now through Aug. 12 at the Denver Art Museum.
