On International Golden Retriever Day (Feb. 3), hundreds of golden retrievers are expected to line the streets of Golden for an event sponsored by Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies, which has been helping to rescue pups since 1996.
At noon, the first 100 owners to arrive at the visitor’s center with their goldies will receive a complimentary doggy bag of Kong toys, and a dog photo.
Then, at 12:30, dogs and their owners will walk to the famous “Welcome to Golden” arch in downtown Golden to pose for a picture.
“Golden retrievers embody a lot of what we love about the city of Golden. Both are incredibly friendly, and both the dogs and our residents have a real love for hiking trails, great food, and fun times with family and friends,” says Hannah Button of Visit Golden.
These fun-loving dogs will receive complimentary bowls of water and dog treats from participating Golden merchants, and, of course, lots of love from Golden residents.
“A Golden retriever can change your life,” said Kevin Shipley, executive director of Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies. “The breed is friendly, happy, excited to greet you, and loves the Colorado lifestyle.”
The Golden Hotel, a dog-friendly lodging option, is offering a Golden Retriever Day deal from Feb. 1 to 3, starting at $145 per night.
