Downtown Denver’s modern Mexican kitchen Tamayo celebrates 20 years of dishing up contemporary Mexican cuisine, margaritas and tequila-focused craft cocktails with a limited time menu featuring favorites from years past. Tamayo was Chef Richard Sandoval’s first restaurant concept in Colorado in 2001. Since then, Sandoval and his team have grown the culinary empire into more than 60 restaurants around the world.
To celebrate the restaurant’s anniversary, Chef Richard Sandoval along with Tamayo’s Chef de Cuisine Antonio Tevillo have curated a menu showcasing the most popular dishes from the past two decades. Restaurants rotate their menus so chefs can learn, absorb, and grow while featuring the freshest ingredients. Bringing back customer favorites, such as the Pork Carnitas, is the best way for Tamayo to say thank you to its beloved guests and highlight what has made the restaurant unforgettable. The Anniversary Throwback Menu features long-time guest favorites including slow-roasted Pork Carnitas with avocado purée and red onion-mandarin salsa, Chili & Coffee Rubbed Carne Asada with achiote chimichurri and Chipotle Camarones with tequila flambéed shrimp and gouda huarache. Desserts include Empanadas de Platano, banana and Mexican cream turnovers with créme anglaise and coconut ice cream. Tamayo will also offer a premium anniversary Veinte Margarita complete with a gold salted rim.
“It is a true honor to see my first Colorado restaurant celebrate 20 years, having survived multiple economic recessions and a pandemic,” said Chef Richard Sandoval, Founder and CEO of Richard Sandoval Hospitality. “We are fortunate to have the most incredible guests and regulars join us; some consistently for 20 years, and the support we continue to receive from both the City of Denver and Larimer Square is phenomenal.”
The restaurant credits its success to its team, the local community and loyal guests. Many regulars have consistently enjoyed a meal at this neighborhood restaurant and tequileria, whether it be lunch, dinner, bottomless brunch or happy hour in the spacious dining room, patio or beautiful rooftop terrace. Other restaurants have come and gone on Larimer Square while Tamayo has stood strong serving up playful yet sophisticated dining experiences including its well-known Bottomless Margarita Brunch.
“Over the years, we have had such a great group of people working with us who have grown into higher positions within the company,” said Miranda Garcia, Director of Operations for Richard Sandoval Hospitality. “We wouldn’t be the restaurant we are today without the creativity and loyalty of our staff. I look forward to seeing what the next 20 years brings Tamayo, from food and beverage programming to events.”
The team at Tamayo invites guests to join the restaurant in celebrating its milestone anniversary during the entire month of August. The Throwback Menu will be available during dinner service only. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made at eattamayo.com.
